Eight Japanese IP Holders to Pitch Remake Rights at Expanded Tokyo IP Market This October

Eight major Japanese publishers, studios and production companies will pitch their intellectual property to international buyers at the second edition of the Tokyo IP Market: Adaptation & Remake (TIPM), running October 28–30 at TIFFCOM 2026 in Tokyo. Variety
The 2026 roster — Amuse Creative Studio, Kadokawa, Nihon Bungeisha, Nippon Animation, Shochiku, Shufu to Seikatsu Sha, Square Enix and Toei — is an expansion from the six IP holders who took part in the inaugural edition a year earlier. Producers from Hollywood, Europe and Asia attend TIPM seeking rights to adapt and remake Japanese manga, novels and classic films. The market hosts one-on-one business meetings and open pitching sessions at the Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Trade Center Hamamatsucho-Kan. Variety
TIPM traces its origins to the Tokyo Story Market, a service for screen adaptation rights covering Japanese manga and novels, launched at TIFFCOM in 2023. At TIFFCOM 2025, Tokyo Story Market was rebranded as TIPM and broadened to encompass film studios and production companies alongside publishers. The market also went international this year: in May, seven companies presented under the Japan IP Market banner at the Cannes Film Market, TIPM's first appearance outside Japan — a collaboration between TIFFCOM and the Marché du Film. The eight participants bring deep and varied catalogues. Shochiku's library runs from Yasujiro Ozu's classic films to contemporary genre fare, spanning 131 years of storytelling. Toei's IP has already crossed borders as the basis for "Power Rangers" and "Yolo," and the studio says its dedicated international production team is open to both remake rights licensing and co-production opportunities. Nihon Bungeisha is the publisher behind the horror hit "Gannibal." Square Enix, known as a game developer and manga publisher, brings titles including "Fullmetal Alchemist," "Soul Eater" and "Kakegurui" — all of which have already generated anime, television and film adaptations. TIFFCOM, now in its 23rd edition, is an Asia-leading content market covering film, TV and animation, held alongside the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival, which opens October 26. Last year's edition attracted more than 4,600 participants from 46 countries and regions and hosted over 7,700 business meetings. TIFFCOM; Variety
Beyond the IP market, TIFFCOM 2026 will also feature sessions on anime, AI and international co-production. Visitor registration is open on the official TIFFCOM website, with an early-bird discount valid until September 10, 2026. Cartoon Brew; Variety; TIFFCOM
What gives TIPM its pull is the sheer density of material on offer. A single buyer walking the floor can browse a horror manga, a 131-year-old studio archive, and a game publisher's back catalogue in the same afternoon — then sit down across a table from the rights holder before the day is out. For producers hunting their next adaptation, that proximity is the whole point.
