Meta is rolling out Pocket, an app that lets users generate small interactive games through AI text prompts and share them on a scrollable feed, to all users in the United States as of August 20, 2026. The app is listed on the Apple App Store under the name "Pocket: Make Gizmos" App Store.

Pocket first appeared quietly in July 2026, launching in the test market of Brazil before this wider US release TechCrunch. The app traces its origins to Meta's acqui-hire earlier in 2026 of the team behind Gizmo, a gaming platform built through "vibe coding" — a term for creating software primarily by describing what you want in natural language rather than writing code manually. That team was folded into Meta's Superintelligence Labs, according to reporting on the acquisition Business Insider.

The games produced inside Pocket, called "gizmos," respond to touch and phone tilt, play sound effects, and can incorporate clips of a user's favorite songs. Gizmos can also pull photos from the camera roll or access the device camera directly. Once created, a gizmo is published to the user's profile, where others can save it, remix it into new creations, or repost it. The result is a social feed built around interactive, AI-generated micro-games rather than passively consumed media.

Pocket is the latest output of Meta's broader push to make AI-assisted creation tools mainstream. The company has previously shipped AI-generated images in its Meta AI app and AI videos through an experimental app called Vibes. More recently, Meta has released an experiment involving AI bedtime stories and, in the week of August 20, a Meta AI app for Mac.

The accelerated cadence of these standalone app launches is something Mark Zuckerberg has directly attributed to AI-enabled software development. Each of those layers has existed independently. AI code generation tools have proliferated across developer workflows. In a social app context where content is generated by AI and then shared broadly, that combination of inputs raises the usual questions about data handling, consent, and moderation that attend any platform combining user media access with viral distribution. Meta has not publicly detailed the specific guardrails in place for gizmos that incorporate camera or photo-library content, and the facts available do not specify what constraints, if any, are applied to how that media is used or retained once a gizmos is published or remixed.

The remix mechanic deserves particular attention from anyone tracking AI-generated content platforms. When a user remixes a gizmo, they are taking an AI-generated artifact, feeding it back into the creation pipeline, and producing a derivative work. This creates an iterative chain of AI-generated content where provenance becomes complex. A gizmo may incorporate a creator's camera-roll photo, a song clip, and the AI-generated game logic, then be remixed by another user who adds their own media and prompt modifications. The resulting artifact has multiple contributing sources layered through successive AI generation steps. How Meta handles attribution, content moderation, and potential copyright concerns across these remix chains is not addressed in the currently available information.

The broader context here is Meta's evident strategy of deploying many small, experimental apps rather than consolidating all new functionality into its primary platforms. Zuckerberg's earnings-call comments suggest this is a deliberate approach enabled by faster AI-assisted development cycles.
