Love Love Adds Rudolph, McDonald and McDermott to Its US Open Rom-Com
Amazon MGM's romantic comedy Love Love has added Adeline Rudolph, Audra McDonald and Dylan McDermott to its cast, Deadline reported on 20 August.
The three join leads Isabel May and Tyriq Withers, who were announced in July. Character details for the new additions are being kept under wraps. The film follows a struggling tennis phenom who falls for a charismatic local ball boy at the US Open — a romance set against the Grand Slam's bright lights.
Joey Power and Daniel Sweren-Becker wrote the screenplay. Production is set to begin in New York this autumn.
Behind the camera, the producer roster carries serious studio pedigree. Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum produce through RK Films, alongside Ari Lubet and Jonathan Berry of 3 Arts Entertainment. Joey Power, Tyriq Withers, Isabel May and Alyssa Altman serve as executive producers. Roth and Kirschenbaum have been behind some of Amazon MGM's biggest theatrical bets, making the producing team a signal of how the studio is positioning the project.
Rudolph comes in with momentum. She is known for Mortal Kombat II and is currently in production on Netflix's reboot of 13 Going on 30. She will next appear in Prime Video's Reacher spinoff Neagley, premiering 16 September, followed by the K-pop thriller Perfect Girl.
McDonald brings stage and screen weight. A six-time Tony Award winner, she recently appeared in HBO's The Gilded Age, Ava DuVernay's Origin and George C. Wolfe's Rustin. McDermott, a Golden Globe winner and multiple Emmy nominee, most recently starred in and executive produced FBI: Most Wanted, which ran on CBS for six seasons.
For Amazon MGM, Love Love fits a broader push into crowd-pleasing theatrical comedies — the kind of film that lives or dies by opening-weekend chemistry and a well-placed release date. The tennis setting gives the story a built-in spectacle: Flushing Meadows in late summer, the crowds, the stakes of a Grand Slam. Whether the rom-com lands will depend on casting chemistry and how the studio slots it into the calendar.
