RayNeo Splits AR Glasses Into Two Camps: Always-On Translation and Big-Screen Media

RayNeo has announced two new product lines that take sharply different approaches to what AR glasses should do. The iO Smart Glasses are a 33-gram wearable aimed at real-time translation and ambient AI assistance. The GT-series, consisting of the GT and GT Max models, targets spatial viewing and media consumption with larger virtual displays.
iO Smart Glasses: Lightweight Translation and AI Assistance
The iO Smart Glasses are designed to look like ordinary eyeglasses. At 33 grams, they are light enough to wear all day. Notably, RayNeo has omitted both cameras and speakers from the device, positioning it as a discreet wearable focused on audio input and display output rather than an all-purpose smart glass.
A small monochrome green display offers a 23.5-degree field of view — the window through which the wearer sees projected content. That is narrow compared to full-color smart displays, but sufficient for showing translated text or notifications without the power draw and bulk of a color microdisplay.
Audio capture relies on a quad-microphone array paired with a bone conduction sensor, which picks up sound through vibrations in the skull rather than through the air. RayNeo pairs this hardware with Timekettle's BabelOS 3.0 AI translation software. The company claims the glasses can translate 55 languages and 109 accents in real time with roughly one second of latency — the delay between speech and translated output. Battery life claims are ambitious: two days of general usage, about 18 hours of continuous recording, and 6.2 hours of active translation.
RayNeo's Ambient AI Productivity Suite extends the iO beyond translation. The suite can listen to conversations, extract action items, and suggest calendar updates — placing the device in the emerging category of always-on ambient assistants. RayNeo says an indicator light activates during recording and translation, giving nearby people a visible cue that the device is active.
A closed beta for the iO Smart Glasses, branded as Project iO, closed on June 30. RayNeo markets the device as its most lightweight and discreet wearable.
GT-Series: A Virtual Cinema on Your Face
The GT-series takes a different approach. The GT weighs 68 grams and the GT Max 78 grams — both substantially heavier than the iO but still in the lightweight tier for AR headsets. The GT can project a virtual screen up to 231 inches at a 46-degree field of view. RayNeo describes the GT-series as offering "cinema-grade spatial viewing," signaling a positioning toward media consumption rather than always-wear translation or productivity.
For context on pricing expectations, RayNeo's existing Air Series AR glasses start at $149.00. The Air 4 Pro, which supports cinematic 3D with native 3D and AI 2D-to-3D conversion, has an estimated ship window of August 22 to 24. Pricing for the iO and GT-series has not yet been announced.
Market Context
The announcement follows a strong quarter for the company. RayNeo ranked No. 1 globally in AR smart glasses shipments in Q1 2026, according to a press release dated July 6. The company states its goal is to transform 1 billion lives worldwide with AR glasses.
The broader context here is that the two product lines reflect a fundamental split in how the industry thinks about AR glasses. The iO bets on a minimal, always-wearable design where the value is ambient intelligence: listen, translate, surface action items, and then disappear into the frame of ordinary eyeglasses. The GT-series bets on immersive media, trading weight and discretion for a large virtual canvas. These are not so much competing products as two different theories of what AR glasses are for — a question the industry has been circling since Google Glass and HoloLens first diverged on the same axis.
The iO's hardware constraints are worth noting. A monochrome green display with a 23.5-degree field of view is a minimal optical surface, and the absence of both cameras and speakers limits the device to a narrow set of functions. The bet is that real-time translation and conversational AI assistance are valuable enough on their own to justify a dedicated device. The one-second latency claim, if it holds in real-world conditions across the full range of supported languages and accents, would be competitive with dedicated translation hardware.
The privacy design choices are deliberate. Without cameras, the device sidesteps the most socially fraught aspect of smart glasses — the one that dogged Glass. Without speakers, output is limited to the wearer's field of view, keeping interactions private by default. The quad-microphone array and bone conduction sensor handle input without the surface area of a conventional speaker. Whether an always-listening ambient assistant can achieve mainstream social acceptance is an open question, but the hardware constraints at least narrow the potential privacy risks.
The GT-series targets a more familiar pitch. A 231-inch virtual screen in a 68-gram device is a straightforward media-consumption proposition, and the 46-degree field of view is workable for immersive video. At 78 grams, the GT Max is still lighter than most dedicated VR headsets, though the gap is narrowing as standalone headsets shed weight.
RayNeo has not announced pricing, availability dates, or regional launch plans for either the iO Smart Glasses or the GT-series.
