Meghan Markle Eyeing Acting Return as She and Prince Harry Plan UK Move

Meghan Markle is reportedly eyeing a return to acting, tied to a reported decision by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to move back to the United Kingdom.

Australian outlet News.com.au first broke the story early on 21 August 2026, reporting that Prince Harry and Meghan are planning to relocate from California to the UK. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the couple had a "wonderful trip" overseas this summer with family and friends and decided to extend their stay.

A person with knowledge of the couple's plans told The Hollywood Reporter about the trip. The same report states that Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have been enrolled in a British school and will start in September. The family is expected to live in a private residence outside London, without royal trappings, and to keep their home in California as well as another in Portugal.

The acting thread is what gives the story its pull. News.com.au reported that Meghan has been offered a role in an upcoming UK-based project, though no further details were given. Bronte Coy, the senior entertainment reporter at News.com.au who broke the story, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that the acting gig played a big role in the couple's decision to move. "I'm told it's significant, and she's very excited about it," Coy said.

Meghan appeared in seven seasons of the legal drama Suits before leaving the show in 2017, the year she and Harry announced their engagement. They married in 2018. Two years later, after a falling-out with the royal family, they stepped back from their roles as working royals and moved to California. As part of that exit, they agreed to stop using the titles "royal highness" and to no longer receive public funds.

Reports now say they are not planning to take up royal duties again. Prince William is understood to be certain there is "no way back" for the couple to rejoin the royal family, The Independent reported on 21 August.

On the business side, the couple's Netflix overall deal — meaning an exclusive arrangement to develop projects for the streamer — was downgraded to a first-look deal a year ago. A first-look deal gives Netflix the right of first refusal on projects the couple develops but does not guarantee they will be produced. In March, Netflix announced it was exiting Meghan's lifestyle brand, As Ever, as a business partner.

When the Netflix deal was first announced in 2020, The Hollywood Reporter noted that Meghan had no plans to return to acting, though the couple might appear onscreen in documentary projects. Earlier that year, the same outlet reported that most royal experts considered a swift return to acting unlikely, partly because of the logistics involved.

Six years on, the picture has shifted. A role described as "significant" and a school term starting in September now frame a return that once looked improbable.
