Urša Menart's 'Everything That's Wrong With You' Premieres at Sarajevo Film Festival
Slovenian writer-director Urša Menart unveiled her second feature, 'Everything That's Wrong With You', in competition at the 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival, where it had its world premiere. The film, a 97-minute Slovenia-Germany-Serbia co-production, was reviewed by Variety on 22 August 2026 (Variety).
The story follows Maruša, played by Anuša Kodelja, a woman who loses her mother to cancer and finds an unlikely lifeline in the online content of an influencer named Alja, played by Klara Kuk. Menart told Variety she drew inspiration from the fake tragic life stories that influencers manufacture for clicks — a detail that gives the film its darkly contemporary spine (Variety).
The action moves across Ljubljana, the Lithuanian countryside, Berlin and a German beach town, lensed by cinematographer Roy Van Egmond (Variety). That geography — a woman drifting through Central and Eastern Europe while glued to a phone screen — places the film squarely in the crosscurrents of modern grief and digital life.
Menart's debut, 'My Last Year as a Loser' (2018), starred Eva Jesenovec and established her as a voice in Slovenian cinema. The new film is her sophomore feature, produced by Katja Lenarčič and Danijel Hočevar for Slovenia's Vertigo (Variety). The film's path to the Sarajevo competition began a year earlier.
