Bret Michaels Cancels Remaining 2026 Tour Dates After Post-Surgery Comeback Show
Bret Michaels has cancelled the remainder of his 2026 tour dates to fully recover from recent surgeries, his representatives confirmed in a statement on social media on August 23. The decision came after doctors and paramedics evaluated the Poison frontman immediately following his Friday night comeback show in Sugar Hill, Georgia, and determined he still needed additional rest and recovery.
Michaels, a Type 1 diabetic, recently underwent surgery to remove a kidney stone and had a ureteral stent placed. He had already postponed an August 12 concert at the Indiana State Fair, pushing it to 2027 to recover from the urgent surgery, according to Page Six. Despite the procedure, Michaels returned to the stage in Sugar Hill on Friday night — only for medical staff on site to advise that he was not yet ready for the road.
His doctors said they would pull him off the road for the time being, citing the need for rest and slow recovery. Summer heat and humidity, and their effect on blood sugar levels, were a particular concern given Michaels' Type 1 diabetes, a condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin and that requires careful daily management of blood glucose.
In a separate social media post, Michaels was candid about the miscalculation. "In my nonstop spirit to go out & do what I love — which is to play music… I may have just chosen to go sooner than I should have," he wrote. "We will come back better than ever."
The cancelled dates span the rest of his Live and Amplified Tour. Six shows had been booked for August and September, including a headlining appearance at The Mountain Music Festival in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, that was set for Saturday, plus a pair of gigs scheduled for November, according to Rolling Stone.
For fans, the disruption is real but the horizon is not empty. Michaels' official website notes that shows and special events are already being contracted for 2027, and his team has signalled that rescheduled dates will follow once doctors clear him to return.
Michaels has spent decades on the road, first with Poison and later as a solo act, and his touring schedule has long been one of the busiest in rock. His health has occasionally intervened before, including a well-documented brain haemorrhage in 2010. This latest pause is, by comparison, a recovery from a common procedure complicated by a chronic condition and the physical demands of performing outdoors in summer.
No rescheduled dates for the cancelled November shows have been announced yet.
