Manchester City Close In on Palmeiras Winger Allan Elias in £34.2m Deal
Manchester City have agreed to sign Brazilian winger Allan Elias from Palmeiras for a fee worth up to £34.2m, with a medical scheduled in the coming days.
The deal breaks down to a fixed £32m plus £2.2m in add-ons — bonus payments tied to performance milestones — according to BBC Sport. Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed on 23 August that City were advancing towards an agreement, following ESPN's report four days earlier that talks between the clubs were under way (TeamTalk, ESPN).
Elias, full name Allan Andrade Elias, is a 22-year-old left-footed attacker known for his dribbling and technical ability. He has been at Palmeiras since the Under-15 youth level, rising through the ranks in São Paulo to reach the first team. Across 96 senior appearances for the club, he has scored nine goals and provided 12 assists, according to The Athletic.
Those numbers tell you what kind of player City are buying: not a prolific scorer, but a creative wide man who gets on the ball and makes things happen. A winger in the modern sense — comfortable running at defenders, drawing them in, and sliding passes into space for others to finish.
The move is tied to outgoing business at the Etihad. City are bringing Elias in as a replacement for compatriot Savinho, who looks set to join Tottenham. ESPN reported that City's pursuit of Elias ran alongside negotiations with Spurs over Savinho's departure, meaning the club identified their target early and moved quickly once the exit door opened.
For Palmeiras, it is another case of a homegrown talent heading to Europe, though the fee reflects the premium English clubs pay for potential. Elias spent roughly seven years in the Palmeiras system before reaching the senior squad, making him very much their product.
For City fans, the appeal is straightforward. Brazilian wingers have a rich history in the Premier League, from Robinho's short-lived stardust to Antony's struggles — the hit rate is mixed, but the ceiling is high. Elias arrives with a clear profile: quick feet, an eye for a pass, and years of top-flight experience in Brazil despite only being 22.
The medical, when completed, will finalise the switch. Until then, the paperwork and the fee are agreed, but the player is not yet a Manchester City player.
