Dominic Monaghan Joins Elijah Wood for CCXP26 in São Paulo as Lord of the Rings Turns 25
Dominic Monaghan is heading to São Paulo. The actor, known to millions as the hobbit Merry Brandybuck, was announced on 25 August 2026 as the second confirmed guest for CCXP26, Brazil's massive fan convention held annually in the city (The Hollywood Reporter).
He joins Elijah Wood, who was confirmed for the event back in June. Wood played Frodo Baggins across all three films in Peter Jackson's adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's saga. CCXP — short for Comic Con Experience — is one of the largest pop-culture conventions in the world, drawing tens of thousands of fans to the São Paulo Expo each December.
Roberto Fabri, CCXP's vice president of content, announced Monaghan's participation and framed it as part of what the event is calling "Fellowship Forever," a celebration of the 25th anniversary of The Lord of the Rings film trilogy (The Hollywood Reporter). The first film, The Fellowship of the Ring, premiered in December 2001, putting the quarter-century mark right on the calendar for late 2026.
The anniversary is shaping up to be a year-long affair. Wood, Monaghan, Sean Astin, and Billy Boyd — the four actors who played the hobbits at the heart of the trilogy — are reuniting across 11 Fan Expo shows in 2026 for an event titled "An Evening with the Hobbits: In Celebration of 25 Years" (Fan Expo HQ, Facebook). The tour, first announced in October 2025 and later expanded, brings the four together on stage for an evening of conversation and audience questions.
For fans, CCXP26 adds a second stop to that anniversary circuit — and in a city with one of the most passionate genre-fan audiences anywhere. The convention has grown into a major date on the global pop-culture calendar, where studios and distributors showcase upcoming releases to packed halls. Casting announcements and guest reveals are rolled out across the year to build anticipation ahead of the December event.
More names are expected to follow. The convention circuit for the 25th anniversary gives fans who grew up with the films a chance to see the cast together again — whether in São Paulo, on the Fan Expo tour, or wherever the Fellowship turns up next.
