Fitbit co-founders James Park and Eric Friedman, through their startup Luffu (pronounced "loo-foo"), launched Luffu Link on August 25, 2026. The LTE-enabled health and safety band is priced at $250, is available for pre-order, and is expected to ship in early 2027. It comes in three colors: halo gold, onyx black, and sterling blue. Luffu Link combines all-day health sensing, voice logging, location awareness, and the ability to summon help from trusted contacts into a single wearable that works independently of a phone. On the sensing side, Luffu Link continuously collects activity, sleep, resting heart rate, calories burned, heart-rate variability (HRV — the variation in time between heartbeats, used as a proxy for stress and recovery), and breathing rate. The data feeds into the broader Luffu platform to identify patterns and deliver personalized insights. A single button press captures voice notes such as medication updates, symptoms, meals, mood, and reminders, which the Luffu app organizes into the family's health context. A quick double-press lets the wearer check in with family members without placing a call or sending a text.

Built-in GPS keeps trusted contacts informed of a wearer's location, including location history and geofence-style entry and exit alerts for specific areas. A geofence is a virtual boundary drawn around a real-world location; when the wearer crosses it, designated contacts get a notification.

Luffu Link complements the Luffu health-monitoring app, which Park and Friedman launched earlier in 2026 on February 3. That app lets families track doctor's appointments, test results, vaccine records, medications, symptoms, diet, and more, using AI in the background to gather and organize family information, learn day-to-day patterns, and flag notable changes. The voice-logging feature deserves attention. Medication adherence and symptom tracking are chronic pain points in caregiving, and they rely overwhelmingly on manual entry in most health apps, which is precisely where compliance collapses. A one-press voice capture that feeds into an AI-organized family context lowers the interaction cost enough that it could meaningfully change data completeness for a subset of users. Whether the voice transcription and subsequent AI categorization are accurate enough to be trusted in health contexts is a question that will only be answerable once the device ships.

The broader context here is a caregiving burden that is structural, not transient. Park's cited figure of 27-plus weekly hours aligns with widely reported caregiver load statistics, and the demographic pressures driving that number are intensifying as populations age. A wearable that combines passive health sensing, location awareness, check-in signaling, and voice logging into a single standalone device is a direct response to that pressure, and the family-centered framing, rather than the individual-quantified-self framing that dominated the first wave of fitness wearables, reflects a genuine shift in how this category is being positioned.

What remains untested is execution. Pre-order to early-2027 ship is a multi-month gap during which competitive dynamics will shift. The inclusion of LTE service without a separate plan is a strong adoption lever, but it also implies an ongoing cost Luffu is absorbing, and the financial sustainability of that approach is not yet clear. The health-sensing stack covers the core biometric set expected in this category, but the value proposition ultimately depends on whether the AI layer in the Luffu app can turn that continuous data stream into actionable, low-noise insights for caregivers rather than another dashboard they learn to ignore.

For now, the signal is clear: two founders who built one of the defining brands in consumer health wearables are betting that the next phase of that market is not more sensors for the individual, but a connected layer that serves the family unit. The Link band is the hardware expression of that bet.
