Gazprom Arena Says No Contract Exists for Ye's Russia Concerts, Promoter Disputes Cancelation

Gazprom Arena, the stadium in Saint Petersburg that was set to host Ye — formerly Kanye West — on October 10 and 11, said on Monday, August 24 that it had never signed a rental agreement for the event and therefore the concerts could not take place there. The venue made the statement in an Instagram post, according to Billboard.

The announcement caught the concert's promoter, Say Agency, off guard. In a Telegram statement, Say Agency said it had not canceled the show and learned of the venue's decision through the media, BBC News reported. The agency said it was trying to contact Gazprom Arena to find out why the post appeared and to resolve the issue.

Adding to the confusion, the arena had actively promoted the Ye concerts on its own social channels before this week's reversal. On August 17, Reuters reported that Gazprom Arena had announced the October dates via its Telegram channel. By the time of the venue's Instagram post, however, the event had vanished from the arena's website, according to TASS.

Say Agency's denial leaves the situation in an unusual middle ground: the venue says there is no contract, while the promoter says the show is not canceled. According to the BBC, the promoters were scrambling to find a replacement venue in Saint Petersburg after the arena's statement.

What makes this stand out is the speed of the reversal. The arena went from publicly championing the dates on August 17 to publicly disowning them a week later — with the promoter insisting throughout that no cancelation had been issued on its end. For ticketholders, the practical question is straightforward: whether the shows move to another venue or fall away entirely, and how quickly that gets communicated.

Neither Ye's representatives nor Say Agency have publicly identified a backup venue. Gazprom Arena has not elaborated beyond its Instagram statement that no rental contract was signed.
