Ryan Gosling Sets Sights on Bedrock: Live-Action Flintstones Movie Centered on Bamm-Bamm in Development at Warner Bros.
Ryan Gosling is heading to Bedrock. The actor and his producing partner Jessie Henderson are in early development on a live-action Flintstones feature at Warner Bros. that would centre on a grown-up Bamm-Bamm Rubble, Deadline reported on 25 August 2026.
The project is at its earliest stage. Gosling and Henderson are currently seeking a writer, meaning no script exists yet and no director is attached. The concept: a feature-length story built around Bamm-Bamm as an adult, rather than the familiar Stone Age family unit that anchored the original 1960-66 animated series.
Bamm-Bamm has been aged up before. The 1971-72 CBS animated series The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show was the first depiction of him as a grown-up — a teenager dating Pebbles, attending Bedrock High School, and fronting a band called the Bedrock Rockers. Gosling's film would take the character further still, into full adulthood.
The Flintstones have a mixed history in live action. Two films — The Flintstones (1994) and The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas (2000) — combined for roughly $401 million at the global box office, Deadline reported. The first, starring John Goodman as Fred, was a commercial hit; the second, a prequel recasting most roles, was not. No live-action Flintstones film has been produced since.
Warner Bros. has been working the property from another angle as well. In October 2024, the studio announced Meet the Flintstones, a new animated feature based on the classic series, MovieWeb reported. That project sits alongside Gosling and Henderson's live-action concept in the studio's development slate — two Flintstones films, two different formats, both in early stages.
Gosling and Henderson produce through their company Open Invite. The pair previously launched a production venture called General Admission, which signed a first-look film deal with Amazon MGM Studios in March 2024, Variety reported. The Warner Bros. Flintstones project sits under the Open Invite banner, not the Amazon deal.
The producers have a film heading into festival circulation shortly. Love of Your Life, a romantic drama directed by Rachel Morrison and produced by Gosling and Henderson, is set to world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
For a character who spent his original cartoon years carrying a club and speaking in monosyllables, a solo live-action vehicle is a considerable leap. Whether the concept draws a writer and advances toward production — or joins the long list of announced Flintstones projects that never reached screens — will depend on the next moves Gosling and Henderson make at Warner Bros.
