Meghan Posts Chicken Tea Towel Video as Sussex Family Prepares for UK Move
Meghan Markle has broken an Instagram silence with a tea towel joke about chickens, posting the clip on the same day HELLO! magazine reported that she and Prince Harry are expected in Britain before the end of August so their children can start school in September.
The video, shared on Meghan's personal Instagram account, shows a tea towel reading "People who take care of chickens are literally chicken tenders." The Zac Brown Band's "Chicken Fried" plays underneath. Meghan, 45, can be heard giggling in the background. It was her first post on the account since news of the family's relocation broke. The clip lands at a moment when the family's animals are in the news. HELLO! reports that the couple's two dogs — Pula, a black Labrador rescued in 2018, and Mia, a beagle rescued in 2022 — will make the transatlantic trip with them. Their chickens will not. Staff will tend to the Montecito, California home while the family is away.
The flock lives in a pen named "Archie's Chick Inn," named for Prince Archie, now 7. Among the birds is a chicken called Sinkie, previously owned by the television host Ellen DeGeneres. Meghan's first beagle, Guy, adopted in 2015, died at the start of 2025, a loss she shared with followers in an Instagram post.
The chicken tea towel may also carry a hint about the family's growing menagerie. In her Netflix series "With Love, Meghan," the Duchess told the cookbook author Chrissy Teigen that Archie and Princess Lilibet, now 5, have been asking for a cat.
For now, though, the birds stay put in California while the rest of the household heads east. The dogs are coming. The school run, it appears, is the point of the whole exercise.
Whether the tea towel was a fond farewell to the "Archie's Chick Inn" residents or simply a woman amusing herself on a quiet afternoon, it caught the mood of a family mid-packing. And if the children get their way, the next pet announcement may not involve feathers at all.
