Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen Shown Running on Nintendo Switch 2 Ahead of October Launch

Fresh footage of Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen running on Nintendo Switch 2 surfaced on 26 August, giving players their first look at how the fantasy role-playing game's first major expansion performs on the handheld console.

Video Games Chronicle shared the new gameplay footage, confirming that the Nintendo Switch 2 port — which bundles the base game together with the Dark Arisen expansion — will launch on 9 October 2026 alongside the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC versions. Nintendo's own store pages list the same release date, and Capcom opened pre-orders in late June.

Dark Arisen sends players to a new region called Norgan. Producer Naoto Oyama told the Japanese outlet Automaton that the expansion's main story scenario runs roughly 15 to 20 hours. Beyond that, twelve unique dungeons — each designed to take about 30 minutes to an hour to clear — add more than 25 hours of additional content. The base game, for comparison, offers around 30 to 40 hours of play.

Capcom has framed three pillars for the expansion: new story content, the twelve dungeon challenges, and expanded character customisation. The company also said the add-on was "built based on wide feedback" to the main game, which launched in March 2024 and earned a Metacritic critic score of 86 alongside a more divided user score of 6.5.

One notable addition is a loot-reveal system reminiscent of Destiny's engram mechanic. Weapons and armour found in the world must be carried to a specific non-player character who identifies what the item actually is — adding a layer of anticipation to every discovery.

A Hard Mode update is also confirmed for Dark Arisen, with Capcom promising further details in a forthcoming Q&A. Pricing in the United States is set at US$49.99 for the full bundle and US$29.99 for the expansion alone, according to Capcom's store. In Japan, the bundle is listed at ¥5,990 and the expansion at ¥2,990.

For fans of the base game — and for Switch 2 owners still building their library — Dark Arisen looks to roughly double the amount of content on offer. The dungeon structure, with its bite-sized 30-to-60-minute clears, also suggests a format that suits portable play sessions particularly well.
