Sarah Pidgeon Joins Netflix's Enigma Variations, Completing the Cast of André Aciman Adaptation
Sarah Pidgeon has been cast as the final remaining female lead opposite Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Netflix's limited series Enigma Variations, according to Deadline (Deadline).
The series adapts the bestselling novel by André Aciman, the author best known for Call Me by Your Name. Amanda Kate Shuman serves as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Oliver Hermanus directs. The production comes from Media Res, the studio behind series including Apple TV+'s The Morning Show, with Michael Ellenberg, Christina Malach, and Lindsey Springer executive producing alongside Aciman, Monica Levinson, and Hermanus.
Pidgeon plays Chloe, one of the female partners the protagonist Paul encounters at four-year intervals across the novel's structure. The book traces Paul's romantic and emotional life through a series of recurring reunions, each set years apart.
The broader ensemble is now set. Alicia Vikander plays Claire. Riley Keough plays Maud. Joining Pidgeon and Taylor-Johnson in newly announced casting are Peter Hermann as Isaac, Juliana Canfield as Luciana, and Francesca Cavallin in an unnamed role. Devon Terrell plays Manfred, Nicholas Podany plays Harlan, and Carl Clemons-Hopkins plays Noah.
For Pidgeon, the role lands during a breakout stretch. She earned a 2024 Tony nomination for Featured Actress in a Play for Stereophonic, the off-Broadway-turned-Broadway hit — a production in which Canfield also starred and received a Tony nomination of her own. Pidgeon followed that with an Emmy nomination for playing Carolyn Bessette in FX's Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette. She has also been cast opposite Kevin Costner and Jake Gyllenhaal in the Amazon MGM Studios film Honeymoon with Harry.
Canfield is widely recognised as Jess Jordan from HBO's Succession. Hermann is known for starring opposite Sutton Foster in Darren Star's Younger and for recurring turns on Blue Bloods and Law & Order: SVU, the latter opposite his wife, Mariska Hargitay.
Netflix has not yet announced a release date or episode count for Enigma Variations.
