Hachette Brings Welbeck Publishing Into Its Sales and Distribution Operations

Hachette Book Group announced on August 26, 2026 that Welbeck Publishing Group will join its sales and distribution operations, consolidating how the London-based publisher's titles reach retailers and readers in the United States.
Sales and distribution — the warehousing, selling and shipping of books to shops and online retailers on a publisher's behalf — is the machinery behind every shelf. When a publisher like Hachette takes on that work for another house, it means Hachette's warehouse, sales force and retail relationships move Welbeck's books into shops, not Welbeck's own.
Welbeck Publishing Group is a London-based publisher of fiction, non-fiction, children's titles and gift products, according to Hachette Book Group. The company's catalogue spans a range of commercial categories, from novels to illustrated gift books, and its list has grown through acquisitions and imprint additions since its founding.
The new partnership shifts Welbeck's US distribution onto Hachette's infrastructure. Previously, Welbeck's US distribution was handled by Two Rivers Distribution, effective July 1 of an earlier arrangement reported in 2020 by Publishing Trends. The move to Hachette's operations represents a change in that distribution pathway, with Hachette's larger retail network and warehouse capacity now serving as the route to American booksellers.
For readers, the change is largely invisible. A Welbeck novel or gift book picked up at a shop or ordered online will arrive through a different distribution channel, but the title, price and content remain the same. The difference matters more to the trade — the agents, retailers and rival publishers who watch which distributor carries which list, because distribution partnerships often signal closer alignment between houses or a stepping stone toward acquisition.
Hachette Book Group is the US arm of Hachette Livre, one of the largest publishing conglomerates in the world, headquartered in France. Its distribution client list has historically included a mix of independent publishers and imprints that rely on Hachette's scale to reach the American market without building their own warehouse and sales infrastructure.
Welbeck's full catalogue — fiction, non-fiction, children's books and gift products — will move through Hachette under the new arrangement. No financial terms of the distribution partnership were disclosed in the announcement.
