Anker's Soundcore division has announced the Nebula X1S 4K projector, a brighter successor to its Nebula X1. The new model uses a four-lamp optical engine rated at up to 6,000 ANSI lumens — a significant increase over the original Nebula X1's three-lamp, 3,500-ANSI-lumen output (Engadget).

ANSI lumens measure the brightness a projector can actually deliver onto a screen, as standardized by the American National Standards Institute. For context, most consumer projectors in this price range produce between 2,000 and 3,500 lumens. The X1S's 6,000-lumen rating approaches what dedicated home-cinema installations typically demand from much more expensive equipment.

The X1S is a triple-laser projector — meaning it uses separate red, green, and blue laser light sources rather than a single bulb — delivering 4K UHD resolution with Dolby Vision HDR support and the ability to fill a screen up to 300 inches diagonally. A zoom lens produces a 200-inch-wide image from a throw distance of 13 to 22 feet, with 25 degrees of tilt for ceiling or shelf placement.

Inside the chassis, a 14-element glass lens array is paired with an adjustable iris (f/2–4.5, 6-blade) that yields a dynamic contrast ratio of up to 56,000:1. Contrast ratio describes the difference between the darkest and brightest parts of an image; higher numbers mean deeper blacks alongside bright highlights. Soundcore states that the glass construction maintains image quality for the operational life of the unit. The company also lists AI-assisted setup as a feature, though specifics on what that entails are limited (Soundcore).

Connectivity and smart-platform integration carry over from the Nebula X1 ecosystem. The X1S includes built-in Google TV, two HDMI inputs (one with eARC, which allows audio to be sent to a receiver or soundbar through the same cable that carries video), and a liquid-cooling system that keeps fan noise at 26 dB. There is no Dolby Atmos support onboard; audio relies on the projector's built-in stereo speakers. A bundle option adds two wireless satellite speakers, bringing total output to 150 watts.

Pricing is set at $3,299 for the projector alone, $3,999 with the satellite speaker bundle, and $4,167 for a package that adds a 100-inch screen. Through September 20, Soundcore is offering launch discounts: $2,499, $2,799, and $2,899 for the three tiers respectively. The company's website advertises savings of up to $1,399 at checkout.

The X1S enters a lineup that already includes two Nebula variants. The base Nebula X1, priced at $2,999, is a 4K triple-laser projector producing 3,500 ANSI lumens with Dolby Audio and a 4.1.2 surround-sound system; it uses a 0.47-inch DMD DLP chip at 3840×2160 with an RGB laser light source covering 110% of Rec. 2020 (a wide color gamut standard). The Nebula X1 Pro, marketed as the "World's First Mobile Theater Station" at $4,999, shares the 3,500-ANSI-lumen output but is built around portability — a 72.4-pound chassis with a retractable handle and wheels, first shown at IFA 2025 and later showcased at CES 2026.

The X1S doubles down on brightness rather than portability. That 6,000-ANSI-lumen figure places it in territory where projection becomes viable in rooms with uncontrolled ambient light — a persistent practical barrier for consumer projectors competing against flat-panel OLEDs and mini-LED TVs.

Looking at the optical engineering, the four-lamp engine is an unusual architecture. Most triple-laser consumer projectors use a single laser light source or a laser-phosphor hybrid (where a blue laser shines onto a phosphor coating to produce white light). Distributing illumination across four lamp assemblies in a triple-laser design suggests Soundcore is prioritizing thermal management and light-output uniformity over the simpler single-source approach. The liquid cooling at 26 dB supports that interpretation, since higher-lumen laser engines typically require aggressive fan cooling that generates more noise. The trade-off in a design like this is unit cost and physical depth, both of which the $3,299 price and the chassis accommodation for a 14-element glass array implicitly acknowledge.

Soundcore also sells a shared accessory pack for the X1 and X1S that includes wireless satellite speakers, wireless microphones, and a protective carry case — an indication that the company sees an addressable audience for the X1S beyond dedicated home-cinema rooms and in more social or semi-portable scenarios.

For a tech-literate buyer weighing this against a comparably priced 85-inch mini-LED TV, the calculus is straightforward: the X1S offers screen sizes that no flat panel can reach at any price, Dolby Vision HDR, Google TV integration, and brightness that reduces the historical ambient-light penalty of projection. What it gives up is the per-pixel contrast and absolute-black performance of OLED, and the zero-installation simplicity of a flat panel. At the launch price of $2,499 through September 20, the value proposition is meaningfully sharper than at full retail.
