GTA 6 Leaker Releases Story Spoilers Ahead of Rockstar's Netflix Showcase
A leaker known as CyberLeek has released new Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay footage containing story spoilers, including a prologue sequence showing protagonist Lucia in prison, just one day before Rockstar Games was set to present the game in detail via a Netflix stream on August 27.
The leaked prologue footage opens with Lucia sitting in a restaurant before cutting to a prison scene where she wears an orange jumpsuit, according to Kotaku and Screen Rant. The sequence appears to set up the backstory for one of the game's two playable leads.
Rockstar has described GTA VI as a "Bonnie and Clyde-type narrative," per senior VP of narrative Rupert Humphries, with players able to control Jason, Lucia, or "as a couple" — switching between the two characters fluidly during gameplay (GameSpot, Dazed). The official plot description states that after an "easy score goes wrong," Jason and Lucia "find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida" (GameSpot).
CyberLeek, an anonymous individual or group, began publishing unreleased GTA VI gameplay videos and images in mid-August 2026, per GameSpot's timeline of the leaks. Earlier clips showed protagonist Jason Duval outside an oceanside house, where sinking a basketball basket increased a "Focus" level on the HUD — a mechanic not previously seen in the series. A second clip showed Jason driving before an altercation with a non-player character, with a wrench among the items usable as weapons. A third appeared to show Jason breaking into a facility and wielding a taser, which would be a new weapon type for Grand Theft Auto if it survives to the final build.
The leaker accompanied the first clip with a set of "commandments" objecting to digital preorders — arguing that a digital download cannot sell out, so preordering offers no customer benefit — as well as objections to fake single-player DLC. GTA VI will not ship on a physical disc, though physical premium editions are available (GameSpot).
Rockstar issued DMCA takedown notices — legal requests under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to remove copyrighted material from the internet — in response to the leaked footage. The takedowns effectively confirmed the footage's legitimacy, since a publisher can only claim copyright over its own material (GameSpot).
CyberLeek's latest leak also hinted at a possible release date delay, suggesting the game is not yet ready, according to Notebookcheck. GTA VI is scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S (GameSpot). The game was first revealed in a December 2023 trailer set to Tom Petty's "Love Is a Long Road."
For fans, the timing adds an extra wrinkle to Rockstar's planned Netflix showcase. Whether the August 27 stream addresses the leaks or sticks to its own curated presentation remains to be seen — but either way, the developer now faces an audience that has already glimpsed parts of the story it was carefully holding back.
