Rangers land Kim Min-su: the South Korean winger who became signing No. 12
Rangers have signed 20-year-old South Korean winger Kim Min-su from Girona for a fee of £8.5m, paid as a single upfront sum, making him the club's 12th arrival of a busy summer window (Yahoo Sport, BBC Sport).
The four-year contract, with the option of an additional year, ties Kim to Ibrox until at least 2030. Rangers moved for him after a previous target, PSV Eindhoven's Couhaib Driouech, was ruled out by a minor injury. They also had a £7.5m bid for Brighton's Amario Cozier-Duberry rejected, according to BBC Sport.
Kim's route to Glasgow has been anything but direct. He came through Girona's B team in Spain's lower tiers, scoring 19 goals in 84 appearances and earning eight run-outs for the senior side. Last season he was loaned to Andorra, a second-tier club, where he registered six goals and four assists in 40 games. Girona's relegation from La Liga, Spain's top flight, opened the door for his departure.
For Rangers, the signing adds another wide option to a squad already stocked with them. Kim joins Djeidi Gassama, Findlay Curtis, Ross McCausland and Daisuke Yokota among the wingers available to the manager this season.
What makes this stand out is the commitment behind it. An £8.5m one-off payment for a 20-year-old with limited top-flight experience is a statement of belief in potential rather than a proven commodity. Kim has scored goals at lower levels and shown he can create them, but the step up to Scottish football, with its intensity and physicality, will be a different test entirely.
Twelve signings in one window is a lot of turnover for any club. Rangers are reshaping the squad with young, international talent, and Kim fits that mould: a player with years ahead of him, a sell-on profile, and a point to prove.
