Julia Fox 'Put a Curse' on FX's Adults — and She's Back for Season 2
Julia Fox told the cast of FX's comedy Adults that the season they did not bring her back would be the season the show would be cancelled. Lucy Freyer, who plays Billie Schaeffer on the series, described the warning as Fox "putting a curse" on the show — and Fox is back for Season 2, so the curse, it seems, is on hold.
Freyer shared the story as Adults returns for its second season on 27 August, premiering with two episodes on FXX and Hulu, with two new episodes dropping each week on Hulu thereafter Forbes. The series, created by Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw, follows five 20-somethings in New York City trying to master adulthood while sharing their friend Samir's family home. The ensemble cast includes Freyer, Owen Thiele, Amita Rao, Jack Innanen and Malik Elassal as Samir Deadline.
Fox appeared in the Season 1 episode "Roast Chicken" as an old friend of the character Paul Baker. For Season 2, she returns in a new cameo, this time playing herself. Freyer said Fox's desire to come back "feels like a blessing" and praised her improvisation and comedy instincts in her appearances Deadline.
The guest-star bench for Season 2 runs deep. Joining Fox are Gaten Matarazzo, Raven-Symoné, Jake Shane, Isaac Powell, Ben Marshall, Zosia Mamet and Susie Essman, according to Deadline. D'Arcy Carden is also on board as a guest star this season Teen Vogue.
For a show built on the chaos of young adulthood, a guest cast that blends internet personalities, sitcom veterans and a model-turned-actress who claims to have hexed the production fits the tone. Whether Fox's return actually lifted the curse is a matter for the writers' room, not the ratings report.
