Ellen Pompeo to Star in Hulu Drama 'Not a Sound' from David E. Kelley Productions

Ellen Pompeo is adding another Hulu project to her slate. The actress will star in Not a Sound, a drama in development at Hulu from David E. Kelley Productions, with 20th Television as the studio, Deadline reported.
The series is based on Heather Gudenkauf's novel of the same name. Pompeo plays Amelia Winn, a disgraced ER nurse who lost her hearing in a hit-and-run and discovers the murdered body of a former colleague. Matthew Tinker and Annakate Chappell, who previously wrote together on David E. Kelley's ABC drama Big Sky, are penning the adaptation. Azazel Jacobs is set to direct.
The project brings together two long-time 20th Television names. Pompeo is under an overall deal at the studio — an arrangement where a studio pays a producer or performer to develop projects exclusively for them. Kelley was based at 20th Television for 22 years. The executive producer roster includes Chappell, Jacobs, Kelley, Tinker, Pompeo and Laura Holstein.
For Pompeo, Not a Sound is the latest in a growing cluster of Hulu commitments. Hulu has already given her two green lights: a second season of the anthology series Good American Family and the dramedy pilot Chicks. She also reduced her on-screen presence on Grey's Anatomy — appearing in eight episodes of season 19 — to make room for streaming work, Entertainment Weekly reported. ABC's Grey's Anatomy is now headed into its 23rd season.
Pompeo's reach extends behind the camera as well. She executive produced the Grey's Anatomy spinoff Station 19 and serves as an executive producer on an upcoming Grey's offshoot set in West Texas, scheduled to premiere in midseason 2027.
Not a Sound is in development, meaning Hulu has not yet ordered it to series. The project could move forward to a pilot or a straight-to-series order — where no pilot episode is shot first — or stall at this stage. No premiere date has been set.
