Yasuhisa Hara's manga Kingdom Vol. 80 reached No. 1 on the Billboard Japan Book Hot 100 released on August 27, 2026, sweeping both brick-and-mortar and e-book metrics for the tracking week of August 17 to 23. Billboard

The volume also topped the Billboard Japan Hot Manga chart and the Reiwa Books chart for the same edition, both published on August 27. Billboard Japan

This is the third consecutive Kingdom volume to debut at No. 1 on the Book Hot 100. Vol. 78 reached the summit on the chart released January 29, and Vol. 79 spent two consecutive weeks at No. 1 beginning with the chart released May 28. Billboard

The No. 1 arrival coincides with the 20th anniversary of Kingdom's serialisation. Alongside Vol. 80, publisher Shueisha released Kingdom Magazine 2026, a commemorative magazine-format book featuring illustrations by Eiichiro Oda (ONE PIECE), Masashi Kishimoto (NARUTO) and Yoshihiro Togashi (HUNTER x HUNTER), among others. The Billboard Japan Book Hot 100 is a comprehensive chart that combines physical sales, e-books, library loans, subscription data and social media activity into a single ranking. It is one of several segmented book charts Billboard Japan publishes each week, including Hot Manga, Reiwa Books, Showa Books and Heisei Books — the latter two grouping titles by the era of their original publication.

Behind Kingdom at No. 2 on the Book Hot 100 was with ZEAL, the debut photobook from boy group MAZZEL. Shot on location in Pattaya, Thailand, the book marked the group's third debut anniversary and led the e-commerce metric across the chart. Billboard

Blue Lock Vol. 40, by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yusuke Nomura, debuted at No. 3, placing in the top 10 across physical, e-commerce and e-book metrics. A live-action film adaptation of Blue Lock is currently in cinemas. Billboard

The rest of the top 10 included BLACK LAGOON Vol. 14 (No. 5), TERRA FORMARS Vol. 24 (No. 6), Anata ga Dareka wo Koroshita (No. 7), Mo Kyomi ga Nai to Rikon Sareta Reijo no Igai to Tanoshii Shinseikatsu Vol. 6 (No. 8), MAJOR 2nd Vol. 33 (No. 9) and Present (No. 10). Billboard

Two novels by Keigo Higashino moved sharply upward. Eien no Kioku climbed from No. 6 to No. 4, having sold out repeatedly since its August 5 release and triggered additional print runs. Yogisha X no Kenshin — published in English as The Devotion of Suspect X — rose from No. 37 to No. 16, improving across all metrics. Billboard
