Miguel Speaks Out Against Racist and Anti-Asian Attacks on Partner Margaret Zhang and Their Family

R&B singer Miguel has posted a lengthy statement on Instagram describing a campaign of racism, threats, harassment, stalking, false allegations and invasions of privacy directed at him and his family.

In the statement, posted on Friday, 28 August, Miguel said his partner Margaret Zhang — the former editor-in-chief of Vogue China — has been the target of "racist, anti-Asian attacks" including abusive comments and direct messages. He said the abuse has extended to their child. The couple welcomed a son named Angel in 2024, and Miguel said Zhang is currently pregnant with their second child Billboard.

Miguel was direct about drawing a line between criticism and something else entirely. "Racism, threats, harassment, stalking, invasions of privacy, and targeting of children are abuse, not opinion," he wrote, according to Billboard. The statement was also reported by Complex, which covered Miguel's account of the attacks in a story by Trace William Cowen Complex.

Legal action is already underway. Miguel said that where legal and ethical lines have been crossed, he has taken and will continue to take legal steps against those responsible. He did not name specific individuals or detail the filings.

Miguel, whose full name is Miguel Pimentel, released his album CAOS in October 2025. His relationship with Zhang has drawn public attention since the two became a couple, with Zhang's high-profile role in fashion media placing their personal life under scrutiny.

For Miguel and Zhang, the statement is a clear warning that further harassment will carry consequences.
