Pokémon Meets Wallace & Gromit: Aardman's Sirfetch'd & Pichu Series Heads to Disney+ in 2027
The Pokémon Company has named Disney+ as the exclusive worldwide streaming home of Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch'd & Pichu, a stop-motion animated series produced by Aardman, the studio behind Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep. The series is slated to arrive on Disney+ and Disney XD in 2027, according to The Pokémon Company's official newsroom.
The announcement came during PokémonXP, a fan convention running alongside the 2026 Pokémon World Championships. Aardman and The Pokémon Company used the panel to debut the latest trailer for the series and share new images, VGC reported on August 28, 2026.
The show follows Sirfetch'd — the evolved form of the duck-like Pokémon Farfetch'd, first introduced in the 2019 games Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield — alongside Pichu, the baby form of Pikachu, as they explore the Galar region. Galar is the British-inspired setting of those same games, which makes it a natural fit for Aardman: the Bristol-based animation house has spent decades building its identity around British charm and clay-and-plasticine craft.
Aardman confirmed new Pokémon appearing in the series, including Impidimp, Appletun and others, expanding the cast beyond its two title characters. The studio described the show as an epic journey through the wilds of Galar.
Phil Rynda, director of Original Animation at The Pokémon Company International — the company's international arm handling brand management outside Asia — commented on the series during the panel, though specific remarks were not detailed in the press materials.
For fans, the pairing is an unusual one. Pokémon animation has historically lived on Japanese broadcast networks and, more recently, on Netflix and Pokémon's own platforms. Aardman, meanwhile, is synonymous with a very different tradition: handmade stop-motion shorts and features, from the Oscar-winning Wallace & Gromit to the dialogue-free comedy of Shaun the Sheep. The collaboration puts a British animation institution in charge of characters born in Japan, under the banner of an American streaming platform — a three-way creative arrangement that few would have predicted.
The Galar setting gives Aardman room to lean into what it does best. The region's rolling countryside, stone-walled towns and distinctly rural atmosphere draw obvious visual parallels to the English countryside that has anchored Aardman's work for decades.
A specific release date within 2027 has not yet been announced.
