Prince Georg of Liechtenstein is engaged to Princess Maria-Nives von der Leyen, with the news confirmed on Friday by his parents, Hereditary Prince Alois and Hereditary Princess Sophie of Liechtenstein HELLO!.
Georg, 27, is the third child of the Hereditary Prince and Princess. He works in business development for the tech sector in New York City and previously attended Malvern College, a boarding school in Worcestershire. His fiancée, Princess Maria-Nives von der Leyen, is 25 and the youngest daughter of Prince Philipp von der Leyen and Princess Elisabeth von der Leyen, members of the Leyen noble family of Germany. She has worked at a marketing agency in Vienna since 2024.
The wedding is expected to take place in Germany in late summer 2027.
The Princely House of Liechtenstein has provided the head of state of the Principality of Liechtenstein — a tiny hereditary monarchy between Switzerland and Austria — for over 300 years, and gave the country its name. In 2025, he was linked in tabloid coverage to Belgium's Princess Elisabeth, the heir to the Belgian throne, after a viral image appeared to show the pair embracing. The House of Liechtenstein told HELLO! at the time that the image had been created using artificial intelligence.
That episode now sits firmly in the rear-view. Georg and Maria-Nives come from families whose roots in the German-speaking aristocracy run deep — the von der Leyens trace their noble lineage back centuries on the western bank of the Rhine, while the Liechtensteins have held their principality since 1719.
