Sarah Ferguson Returns to the UK as Daughter Princess Eugenie Welcomes Third Child
Princess Eugenie gave birth to her daughter, Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank, on 3 August 2026 in Lisbon, Portugal — her third child with husband Jack Brooksbank (Hello!).
Nearly four weeks on, the newborn's maternal grandmother has yet to meet her. Sarah Ferguson is "not believed" to have visited Adelaide, according to Hello!, which reports that the Duchess of York has not set foot in the UK for seven months. The Sun, cited by the same outlet, reported the absence.
Ferguson now reportedly plans to return to Britain as soon as Monday, into a rented house in the Home Counties at £10,000 a month (Hello!). The move would end months abroad that included a stay at a £2,000-a-night spa retreat in Austria, followed by time lying low in Verbier, Switzerland, in a property owned by her former partner Paddy McNally.
The return comes after a turbulent period for Ferguson and her ex-husband, Prince Andrew. The couple were evicted from Royal Lodge — the Windsor property owned by King Charles where they had lived — in February (Hello!). Andrew subsequently moved to Marsh Farm on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk in April. He is also under police investigation following his arrest and release on his 66th birthday.
Royal author Andrew Lownie told Hello! that it is "unlikely" Andrew will see his new granddaughter except through FaceTime. Lownie also alleged that the relationship between Andrew and his two daughters, Eugenie, 36, and Princess Beatrice, 39, is "particularly fractured and complex."
Ferguson has long described her closeness with her daughters, who call themselves a "tripod." The bond has been a recurring theme in Ferguson's public comments and her books. Adelaide is Ferguson's sixth grandchild, a count that includes Beatrice's stepson Wolfie (Hello!).
The baby's name carried its own headline. New Idea Australia reported on 18 August that Ferguson was upset Eugenie did not name the child after her mother — a claim attributed solely to that outlet and not corroborated by any household statement (New Idea Australia). The newborn's middle name, Elizabeth, echoes the late Queen but not Ferguson's own name, Sarah.
For now, the picture is one of a family spread across countries and circumstances. Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are settling into life with a newborn in Lisbon. Andrew is at Sandringham. And Ferguson, if the reported plans hold, will be back on British soil within days — close enough, at last, to make the trip to meet her youngest grandchild.
