Hull City agree deal for Bundesliga speed king Bahoya
Hull City have agreed a deal with Eintracht Frankfurt to sign winger Jean-Matteo Bahoya, with the 21-year-old now cleared to undergo a medical in East Yorkshire before the transfer deadline, according to BBC Sport.
Bahoya is open to the move. If it goes through, he would become Hull's 13th signing of a summer window that already reflects serious ambition from a club finding its feet in the top flight. Hull won promotion through last season's play-offs — the end-of-season mini-tournament that decides the final Premier League place — and have started the new campaign in startling fashion, beating both Manchester United and Coventry City in their opening two matches.
The detail that catches the eye is the pace. Bahoya holds the Bundesliga speed record, clocked at 23.09mph during a match against Bochum in 2025. For context, that is marginally quicker than the Premier League's fastest recorded sprints. It is the kind of attribute that worries defenders the moment a team sheet goes up.
A France Under-21 international, Bahoya is primarily a left winger but can play across several attacking positions — versatility that will appeal to head coach Sergej Jakirovic, who is still shaping his squad for a first Premier League season. Bahoya joined Frankfurt from French club Angers in 2024 and has since contributed seven goals and eight assists in 78 appearances. Those are modest numbers for a winger, but his game is built on threat and movement rather than raw output.
He had previously been linked with several Premier League clubs, and as recently as 19 August, Yahoo Sports reported that Everton had expressed interest, citing The Guardian. Hull, though, appear to have won the race.
There is a neat twist of timing in all this. On 8 August, Frankfurt played a friendly against Hull and won 2-0. Bahoya was involved in the second goal, touching on Fares Chaibi's cut-back for Arrhov to convert in the 71st minute (Hull City). Three weeks later, the same player is heading back to East Yorkshire — this time to join them.
Bahoya missed a stretch of the season through injury but was back in Frankfurt's matchday squad by mid-January (Eintracht Frankfurt). He returned to full fitness and remained in contention through the second half of the campaign, which included his record-breaking sprint.
For Hull fans, the appeal is obvious. A promoted club that has just beaten Manchester United does not typically land a Bundesliga speed record-holder the following week. Whether Bahoya's transfer is completed before the deadline remains subject to the medical, but the pieces are in motion — and the mood around the MKM Stadium is building nicely.
