Alanis Morissette replaced Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O at the last minute to duet with Olivia Rodrigo on "Ironic" at the inaugural Daisy Chain Fields festival on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2026, at Great Park in Irvine, California. Rodrigo told the crowd herself that Karen O had pulled out due to a personal matter, then introduced Morissette for the surprise performance, Billboard reported.
During the duet, Rodrigo and Morissette reworked one of the song's lyrics, changing "beautiful wife" to "beautiful husband." The swap played to the festival's ethos: Daisy Chain Fields was an all-women, queer-inclusive one-day event whose bill also featured Chappell Roan and Doechii. The festival raised $10 million for nonprofits supporting women and girls, according to Billboard.
The "Ironic" duet adds another entry to Rodrigo and Morissette's shared stage history. Rodrigo inducted Morissette into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2022, and the two previously performed together during Rodrigo's Sour tour, trading verses on Morissette's "You Oughta Know" at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on May 24, 2022, Billboard reported.
Daisy Chain Fields served as a live showcase for Rodrigo's third album, "You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love," which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 — the chart that ranks the most-consumed albums in the US — in June 2026 with 485,000 equivalent album units, the measure that converts streaming plays and traditional sales into a single album-sales figure. The festival's $10 million fundraising total gives the event a philanthropic dimension alongside its billing as a curated music lineup.
For fans, the Morissette appearance carries its own resonance: a 21-year-old artist who has spoken openly about her debt to 1990s songwriters sharing a stage with one of them, on a song that satirised the very idea of a tidy life narrative.
