Castleford prop Sam Hall heads to Toulouse at season's end

Castleford Tigers prop Sam Hall will leave the club at the end of the current Super League season to join Toulouse Olympique in France.

The 24-year-old came through Castleford's academy — the youth development pathway that brings players through a club's junior ranks — and made his Super League debut in February 2020. Across six seasons in the first team, he has racked up 67 top-flight appearances and scored three tries, including 19 outings in the current campaign (BBC Sport).

Toulouse first launched a move to sign Hall at the start of August, with the deal now confirmed ahead of the 2027 season (Love Rugby League).

The transfer carries a neat statistical irony. Castleford currently sit 10th in the Super League table with two matches left, two points behind Toulouse — the very club Hall is heading to join. Both sides are scrapping for position in the lower reaches of the standings, and Hall has already faced his future employers twice this season, featuring in Castleford's 21-man squads for home and away fixtures against Toulouse (Castleford Tigers).

Back in February, Hall played in the Round Two meeting between the two sides, which Toulouse won 24-12 (Castleford Tigers).

For Castleford, losing a homegrown forward with more than 60 senior appearances is a real blow. Hall has been a consistent presence in the pack this year, and his departure leaves a gap in the front row — the group of forwards who form the scrum and carry much of the physical workload in both attack and defence.

For Toulouse, the signing adds a proven Super League operator to a squad chasing consolidation at this level. The French club, who play their home matches in the heart of rugby league's southern heartland, will welcome a player still in his mid-twenties with years of peak rugby ahead of him.

Hall's move also continues a well-trodden path between the English and French games. Toulouse have regularly dipped into the Super League market for British talent, and the prospect of life in a rugby-mad city with a Mediterranean climate has obvious appeal for players weighing up their next contract.

Castleford have two remaining fixtures to try to close the two-point gap on Toulouse in the table. Whether Hall finishes his Tigers career having helped overhaul the side he is about to join remains the storyline to watch.
