mk2 Films Takes International Sales on Carlos Reygadas' 'Heil Jupiter!' Ahead of NYFF World Premiere
Paris-based mk2 films has picked up international sales rights to Heil Jupiter!, the new feature from Mexican director Carlos Reygadas, ahead of its world premiere at the 64th New York Film Festival in late September (Deadline). International sales rights mean mk2 will license the film to distributors territory by territory across the world outside its home market — the first link in the chain that decides which cinemas, in which countries, eventually screen the picture.
The film marks Reygadas' first feature since Our Time, which premiered in competition at the Venice Film Festival in 2018 (Deadline). Heil Jupiter! was first announced roughly eight years ago under the working title Wake of Umbra, and the director described the long production process as one of "deep investigation" when he spoke at the Locarno Film Festival in 2025 (Deadline). The shoot spanned five countries — Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Norway, and Mexico (Deadline).
Reygadas is a familiar name on the festival circuit. He broke through in 2002 with his debut Japón, which earned a Caméra d'Or Special Mention at Cannes. He won the Cannes Jury Prize for Silent Light in 2007 and the Best Director award for Tenebras Lux in 2012 (Deadline).
The New York Film Festival, programmed by Film at Lincoln Center, runs from 25 September through 12 October 2026 (Film at Lincoln Center). Heil Jupiter! screens in the Currents section, a strand devoted to innovative and boundary-pushing work, and the festival lists the screening as the film's world premiere (Film at Lincoln Center). The film runs 80 minutes and is performed in an invented language and Spanish, with English subtitles (Film at Lincoln Center).
Behind the camera, the production credits read as a map of the shoot itself. Cristina Velasco produces for Paloma Negra Films and Reygadas for his own No Dream banner. The co-production roster includes Madants (Poland), Rosa Films (Portugal), Snowglobe (Sweden), Fat City (U.S.), Felix Culpa (U.S.), Board Cadre (Switzerland), Staer (Norway), Leaf Entertainment (U.S.), and Duende (U.S.) (Deadline).
The film is billed as "a visionary cinematic experience and a nightmarish reflection" on the resistance of love and beauty in our times (Deadline). With mk2 now handling sales, distributors around the world will get their first look at festival screenings — and the territories where audiences can eventually see Heil Jupiter! on a screen will follow from there.
