Circular's Ring 3 Series Splits Smart Rings Into Two Tiers: Clinical Health and Everyday Wear

Circular unveiled its Ring 3 series — the Ring 3 Pro and Ring 3 Slim — at the IFA trade show in Berlin on September 3, 2026. Both models ship with a built-in NFC chip for contactless payments (the same tap-to-pay technology used in phones and cards) and a haptic engine that delivers on-finger vibration alerts for alarms, medication reminders, health notifications, and guided breathing exercises. The company has not yet announced pricing or pre-order details; availability is expected in early 2027.
The Ring 3 Pro is the health-focused flagship of the pair. It features FDA-cleared ECG for atrial fibrillation detection — meaning the ring can take a medical-grade reading of your heart's electrical rhythm by having you complete a circuit between two fingers in forty seconds, flagging signs of AFib, an irregular heartbeat condition. Beyond ECG, the Pro tracks blood pressure trends, glucose levels, and sleep patterns, alongside continuous monitoring of heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV, a measure of the variation between heartbeats that reflects stress and recovery), and blood oxygen (SpO2) through a PPG optical array — the same type of light-based sensor technology used in most fitness wearables to read blood flow through the skin. Skin temperature is measured as a deviation from the user's own baseline, which Circular describes as the earliest signal of illness or a menstrual cycle phase. Three-axis motion tracking handles sleep stages, workouts, and steps without requiring manual logging.
The Pro also achieves up to 12 days of battery life, up from seven days on its predecessor, the Ring 2, which Circular describes as the world's first smart ring with ECG and AFib detection. The Ring 3 Pro carries both FDA clearance and EU MDR CE marking, meaning it meets medical device regulatory standards in both the United States and Europe.
The Ring 3 Slim is thinner and lighter than the Pro and targets a different buyer. CEO Amaury Kosman said the Slim was created for people who want a fashionable smart ring with essential wellness insights and contactless payments rather than every health feature. The Slim tracks sleep, heart rate, HRV, SpO2, skin temperature, and daily activity, with up to 10 days of battery life. Neither model requires a subscription for core health features.
Both rings share a common hardware foundation: titanium steel construction, 50-metre water resistance, wireless charging, and sizes 6 through 14. Colour options — gold, rose gold, silver, and black — carry over from the Ring 2. The haptic engine on both models provides a silent alarm felt on the finger and not noticed by others in the room, which Circular argues is one advantage of the finger as a sensor location: it gives optical sensors their strongest signal and is a spot users will actually keep a device through sleep, showers, training, and years.
The announcement lands amid a competitive surge in the smart ring category. Oura launched its Ring 5 and RingConn introduced its Gen 3, both before Circular's IFA reveal. The competitive pressure is visible in Circular's two-tier approach: a Pro model loaded with clinical-grade sensors and a Slim model that strips the feature set down to essentials while retaining NFC payments. The no-subscription stance on core health features is a direct challenge to Oura, which has built a recurring-revenue model around its monthly membership.
The Ring 3 Pro's sensor stack is the more technically ambitious of the two. Blood pressure trend tracking and glucose tracking in a ring form factor are still early-stage capabilities across the wearable industry, and Circular has not detailed the underlying methodology for either. ECG with FDA clearance and EU MDR CE marking, however, puts the Pro on measurable regulatory footing — a meaningful differentiator in a market where many biometric claims rest on consumer-grade accuracy. The 12-day battery figure, if it holds in real-world use, would give the Pro a comfortable lead over most competitors in the ring category, where seven-day cycles have been the norm.
The Slim, by contrast, reads as a market-share play. Kosman's framing — "fashionable smart ring with essential wellness insights" — positions it against buyers who find the Pro's sensor array either unnecessary or uncomfortable. The Slim's 10-day battery and lighter build trade clinical depth for everyday wearability, and the shared NFC chip means neither model forfeits the payments use case that has become table stakes in this category.
Circular's existing NFC Ring line, a product dedicated solely to contactless payments, predates the Ring 3's integrated NFC. Folding payments into the health-oriented Ring 3 series consolidates that capability into a single device, which is the logical product arc for a company trying to compete on breadth rather than specialization.
Pricing will be the decisive variable. Circular has not disclosed figures, and the smart ring market now spans a wide range — from premium subscriptions bundled with hardware to one-time-purchase models. With availability not expected until early 2027, the company has given competitors a runway of months to respond, and has given itself a runway to land pricing that can sustain the two-tier strategy.
