Kevin Zegers, Paul Gross and Milla Jovovich Join Crave's Heated Rivalry for Season 2
Kevin Zegers, Paul Gross and Milla Jovovich have joined the second season of Heated Rivalry, the Canadian hockey drama set to debut on HBO Max in spring 2027. Variety reported the casting on 3 September 2026.
Zegers takes on the role of Coach Wiebe. Gross plays Commissioner Roger Crowell, and Jovovich steps in as Dr. Galina Molchalina. The three join an ensemble that already spans a large cast of previously announced names, including Justice Smith, Charlie Gillespie, Daniel Diemer, Edvin Ryding, François Arnaud, Emily Hampshire, Sophie Nélisse and Priyanka, among others.
Season 2 continues the story of two hockey superstars — Shane Hollander, played by Hudson Williams, and Ilya Rozanov, played by Connor Storrie — whose on-ice rivalry conceals something more personal, as described on Crave's official series page. The show is created by Jacob Tierney, who writes, directs and executive produces. The season is based on The Long Game, the sixth book in Rachel Reid's Game Changers novel series.
Heated Rivalry is commissioned by Bell Media's streaming service Crave, with funding from the Canada Media Fund. The production company is Accent Aigu Entertainment. Executive producers Brendan Brady and Jayme Alter Wilson lead the production team alongside producers Lori Fischburg and Liane Cunje, with Reid serving as consulting producer. Mike Goldbach co-writes Season 2.
Filming is already under way. In early August, Accent Aigu Entertainment and the show's official social accounts issued a public statement asking fans to give the cast and crew space during production, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter and ABC News' Good Morning America. The plea came as Season 2 entered production, according to a GMA Network report published 5 August 2026.
The premiere is targeted for spring 2027, likely in April, per Deadline.
For fans, the new additions bring familiar faces to a world already built around a deep ensemble. Zegers is known to audiences from his work in film and television going back decades; Gross is a veteran of Canadian drama; and Jovovich brings a global film profile. How their characters intersect with the Hollander-Rozanov storyline remains to be seen in the scripts, but the cast list alone signals a second season willing to widen its scope.
