Leila George Joins Miles Teller in Thriller 'Copperhead' as Cameras Roll
Leila George has landed a lead role opposite Miles Teller in Copperhead, a thriller from Black Label Media that heads into production this September, Deadline reported on 8 September 2026.
George will play a character named Leah. The film is directed by John Swab, a Venice Film Festival prize-winner, from a screenplay by Chad Feehan and J. Todd Scott. The story kicks off when an undercover drug deal erupts into violence, forcing a veteran detective to work alongside a young federal agent to untangle a conspiracy inside their own elite task force.
The ensemble is stacked. Jason Momoa, Tenoch Huerta, Adria Arjona and Kiefer Sutherland round out the cast alongside Teller and George, according to Deadline.
Behind the camera, the financing and producing structure is a three-way partnership. Black Label Media financed the film and produces alongside Miles Teller's Lime Tree Productions and John Swab's Milk Boy. Black Bear is handling international sales at the Toronto International Film Festival, while CAA Media Finance and WME Independent are co-repping the domestic rights — the United States and Canada — a split that lets the agencies field competing bids from stateside distributors while Black Bear shops the rest of the world.
For George, the role caps a fast-moving stretch. She broke out in Alfonso Cuarón's Apple TV+ limited series Disclaimer, which earned her a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She followed that with a turn as Kelly Klein in Ryan Murphy's FX series Love Story, and appeared in Netflix's Emmy-winning limited series The Beast in Mine. Earlier, she was a series regular across three seasons of TNT's Animal Kingdom.
Her upcoming slate keeps filling. She stars opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Amazon MGM's Road House 2, will appear in the Netflix/Amblin series All the Sinners Bleed, and is set for Oliver Stone's White Lies opposite Josh Hartnett.
What makes Copperhead worth watching is the collision of talent on both sides of the camera. Swab's festival credentials suggest a director with a sharp edge, while the screenplay comes from Feehan and Scott, writers with television and crime-fiction pedigrees. Pair that with a cast that spans blockbuster names and prestige character actors, and the film has the raw materials of a commercial thriller with ambitions beyond a standard genre entry. The Toronto marketplace will be the first real test: TIFF, where Black Bear is shopping the title, is one of the key festivals where international buyers commit to films before they reach cinemas, often a year or more ahead of release.
