Severance producer Nicholas Weinstock boards Indian horror film Tongue
Severance executive producer Nicholas Weinstock has boarded Tongue, an Indian fantasy-horror feature about two sisters and a secret language, according to Variety.
The film is written and directed by Krishnarjun Bhattacharya. It stars Sayani Gupta as one of two estranged sisters at the centre of the story. An executive producer is a senior figure who helps steer a series and shares in its creative and business decisions.
The plot unfolds over a single night. The sisters are locked inside their late grandmother's crumbling mansion. They search for clues linked to the Tongue, the mysterious language that gives the film its title. Fantasy-horror mixes supernatural ideas with scares, and here that mix centres on language itself.
Weinstock is producing through his company Invention Studios, alongside producer Divya D'Souza. A banner is simply a producer's own company name. Gupta is also producing as the Indian producer on the project, as reported by Variety. She is working through her own banner, Sayani Gupta Movies, which handles her producing work.
Tongue has been selected for the Indo-Canadian Producers' Lab organised by the South Asian Canadian Film Federation. The lab supports projects designed as joint productions between India and Canada. The film will also be presented through the Toronto Film Festival's Indo-Canadian co-production market, where film-makers pitch to possible financiers and distribution partners.
Bhattacharya graduated from the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad. He has a background in horror writing, having co-written Vakr, an Indian horror series set for release on Netflix in 2026.
Gupta is balancing Tongue with a separate move into American films. She is set to make her United States feature debut with Arya, which has completed filming in Duluth, Minnesota. Completing filming means shooting has finished, with editing and other post-production work still to come. Arya is written and directed by Neil Tuli, according to Variety. Gupta serves as executive producer, a senior role that helps guide and support a production, and the cast includes Ross Butler, Mark Evan Jackson and Adi Roy.
What makes this stand out is the blend of experience. A producer known for prestige television meets a new horror voice and an actor turning producer. The Canadian lab gives that team a structured route to find partners across two countries.
