Courteney Cox has paid tribute to Hayden Panettiere, her co-star in two Scream films, after Panettiere's death in August at age 36, according to Variety.

Cox spoke about Panettiere in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. She called Panettiere a wonderful actor. She said their last time working together was fun and happy.

The two actors first appeared together in 2011's Scream 4, which introduced Panettiere to the long-running horror series. They reunited for 2023's Scream VI, the sixth film in the franchise.

In Scream VI, Panettiere returned as Kirby Reed, a fan favourite from Scream 4, according to Entertainment Weekly. Cox returned as crime reporter Gale Weathers, a role she first played in 1996's Scream, according to Entertainment Weekly.

That return followed a four-year break from acting for Panettiere. She later said she had worried she could no longer act and found the comeback daunting. Before Scream, she was known to television audiences for Heroes and Nashville.

Her Heroes co-stars have also marked her death. The cast held a reunion to celebrate her life, according to Variety. That included Jack Coleman, who played her father on the show.

For fans, this means two screen families are grieving the same loss. Cox's memories focus on the work itself. Fun and happy on set, and gone at 36.
