Chris Rock got notes on Misty Green from Paul Thomas Anderson
Paul Thomas Anderson watched Chris Rock's new film Misty Green and gave him notes.
Rock described the exchange to The Hollywood Reporter during the premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, the Canadian festival where many autumn cinema releases first meet the public. Anderson is a fellow director. Rock sought his eye before release.
Asked whether Anderson watched as a friend or to give advice, Rock answered "Both". He added that between directors it is always for notes.
The advice was light. Rock called it "a tweak here or there". He declined to say what Anderson asked him to change.
Rock wrote and directed Misty Green. The film is being put into cinemas by A24, the independent company handling its distribution, and it is scheduled for theatrical release on Oct. 9.
The story follows a faded, award-winning actress trying to restart her career after reconnecting with her former talent agent, the representative who once found her work. Rosalind Eleazar leads the cast. She is joined by Topher Grace, Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick and Rock himself.
Rock said the idea started when he saw a once-famous actress working in a loop group, a small acting workshop where performers repeat and refine scenes. He did not name her. He said he will never reveal who she was.

The film is now moving through the festival circuit, the run of major festivals where films build attention before they open. After Toronto, it will play the London Film Festival.
