Klein and Taylor's End Times Fascism arrives after Guardian review

Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor will publish their co-written book End Times Fascism: And the Fight for the Living World on 15 September 2026, one day after The Guardian published its review. The title phrase is the authors' shorthand for what they describe as a convergence of interests in response to the climate crisis. That is the argument. It frames the book as an account of present-day power rather than a warning about distant disaster.

At the centre is what the book describes as a loose alliance rooted in US political and business elites. It names three principal factions: religious fanatics, new tech barons and political entrepreneurs. Each pursues its own goals. Together, the book argues, they shape a harsh politics for a warming world.

The technology strand gets close attention. The book portrays tech barons as promoting the AI arms race, meaning the rush to build ever more powerful systems, as humanity's salvation while planning to shelter in remote, fortified enclaves. The opening scene features Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff.

Klein and Taylor define fascism as "capitalism with bared teeth". They draw on earlier theorists including Walter Benjamin and W.E.B. Du Bois. The language is blunt. The references place their case in a longer history of writing about race, capital and power.

Klein is a Guardian US columnist and the book is listed as her tenth book. Taylor is a Canadian-American film-maker, writer and activist. In Britain the book is listed by Penguin UK under ISBN 9780241816288, the number bookshops and libraries use to order one specific edition.

The book has had a long run-up. The Guardian published a long read titled The rise of end times fascism on 13 April 2025, credited on Klein's website to both Klein and Taylor. Since then the authors have built a public programme around the theme, including a Guardian live event billed as How to resist end times fascism.

For readers following the publicity, this means a crowded launch week. Klein's site lists a 12 September appearance at The Many vs The Money Summit and a 13 September conversation with Taylor. The Guardian also published an interview on 12 September headlined "Naomi Klein: 'Extreme wealth has a deranging effect. It turns you into a supremacist'".
