Duchess of Edinburgh begins Zambia visit as Princess Royal heads to Gloucester

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh begins a visit to Zambia on Monday, 14 September, with stops listed in Lusaka, Lower Zambezi and Livingstone.

The programme was set out in advance of the visit and reported by HELLO!. It runs across three centres. Each stop has its own diary.

Lusaka opens the visit. Lower Zambezi and Livingstone follow. The geography is wide. The themes stay tight.

Those themes are gender equality, climate and nature, and education and research partnerships. No speeches have been published in advance. The emphasis, as listed, is on meetings and site visits rather than ceremony.

In Zambia the Duchess is due to call at Community House for a meeting with President Hichilema. Community House is the President's official residence in Lusaka, and such a call is the formal courtesy at the start of an official visit.

She is also due to visit Mosi-oa-Tunya. There she will lay a posy at the First World War memorial. A posy, a small bunch of flowers, is the customary tribute laid by a visiting royal where a full wreath is not used.
