Mystery couple marry at St George's Chapel where Harry and Meghan wed
Another couple have married inside St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.
The venue is familiar. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot there, in front of the late Queen, King Charles, Prince William and Princess Kate. Their ceremony was watched by some 18 million people in the UK, according to Hello!.
This time cameras were allowed in. Photographer Neil Jackson shared photos from inside the chapel, including the new husband and wife at the altar. He described it as an "extraordinary privilege" to photograph.
The location explains the interest. St George's Chapel is a Royal Peculiar, a church governed directly by the monarch rather than by a local diocese. Anyone who wants to marry there must get the permission of the sovereign.
That rule applies at the top. Even members of the royal family such as Prince Harry must formally ask the monarch for approval before holding a wedding at St George's Chapel. That permission now sits with King Charles.
Access is also narrow. Eligibility requires ties to the chapel or royal household. That includes members of the British Royal Family, people who live or work at Windsor Castle, residents of the College of St George, and Knights and Dames of the Order of the Garter and their immediate families.
The College of St George, the body attached to the chapel, records that the wedding of Prince Henry of Wales and Ms Meghan Markle was celebrated on Saturday, 19 May, in St George's Chapel, according to the College of St George. The Royal Family paid for that wedding, after the Queen gave permission for it to take place at Windsor, Royal.uk records. Around 2,640 members of the public were invited to the celebrations.
St George's has hosted other royal weddings. Princess Eugenie of York and Jack Brooksbank married at St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle. Their service started at 11:00, with the Dean of Windsor, the senior clergyman of the chapel, officiating.
What makes this stand out is how rarely the inside of a chapel wedding is seen so closely. For fans, this means a clear view of the altar and the stalls where royal guests sat in 2018.
