World's youngest monarch King Oyo of Tooro buried aged 34
King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV of Tooro died on 27 August 2026 aged 34. He was buried on 12 September 2026 after a requiem mass in Fort Portal in western Uganda.

King Oyo inherited the throne in 1995 after the death of his father, Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III. He was three years old. That made him the world's youngest ruling monarch at the time. He took on full royal responsibilities in 2010 on reaching adulthood.
Tooro is a traditional kingdom in western Uganda. Its monarch holds cultural significance but no political power. Uganda's traditional kingdoms were restored for cultural purposes, and their work centres on ceremony, charity and community leadership.
His coffin arrived at Entebbe Airport on 4 September 2026. Family members and government officials gathered for a transfer ceremony.
The requiem mass was held at St. John's Cathedral in Fort Portal on 12 September 2026. Queen Mother Best Kemigisa and Princess Ruth Komuntale attended. After the service he was laid to rest at the Karambi Royal Tombs.
