Ferit Karahan brings Djinn Wedding to Toronto Platform race
Ferit Karahan will unveil his new film Djinn Wedding at the Toronto International Film Festival. It will have its world premiere in Platform, the festival's competitive section for bold work by directors, according to Variety.
The Turkish title is Cinlerin Düğünü. Karahan wrote and directed the film as his follow-up feature to Brother's Keeper.
The premiere is set for September 16 in Platform, Screen Daily reported. A first trailer has now been released ahead of that screening.
The story centres on four siblings seen across three periods of time. Secrets and old traumas come to the surface during a family wedding, with the action set in a remote Anatolian village, according to Variety and the festival's listing on TIFF. The wedding is only the start.
The ensemble cast includes Demit Özdemir, Kaan Yildirim, İlhan Şen, Sarp Bozkurt, Helin Kandemir and Evliya Aykan. The names span television, theatre and film in Turkey.
Karahan arrives in Toronto with festival history behind him. His previous feature Brother's Keeper won the Fipresci Award, a prize voted by international film critics, in the Panorama section of the Berlin Film Festival.
Djinn Wedding is produced by Ferit Karahan Film, Royal Pictures, Maya Films and Arya Yapim. Paris-based Luxbox is handling international sales, the business of selling distribution rights territory by territory.
For festival watchers, this means an early chance to see a Turkish family drama before it starts its sales run. Variety included the film from Turkey among 20 international titles to track at TIFF 2026, and TIFF maintains an official film page titled Djinn Wedding.
