Derbyshire All-Rounder Anuj Dal Retires at 30 for Career in Finance
Derbyshire all-rounder Anuj Dal has retired from professional cricket with immediate effect to take a full-time job in financial services.
Dal was 30. He leaves Derbyshire after nine years. The club announced his decision in September 2026, with Derbyshire confirming the retirement was immediate Derbyshire CCC.
The reason was contractual. Dal said his departure followed a failure to agree terms on a new deal with Derbyshire, according to BBC Sport. He will now join Nottingham-based Ryley Wealth Management full time. He had already worked part time for the firm alongside his playing career.
An all-rounder is a player trusted to both bat and bowl. Dal did both for Derbyshire across all three formats: the long-form County Championship, played in whites over up to four days, plus one-day and T20 cricket. Across his career he scored 3,773 runs and took 128 wickets.
His best season came in 2022. He scored 957 runs and took 34 wickets that year. Scorecard records list those 957 runs at an average of 73.61. That form earned him Derbyshire's County Championship player of the year award for 2022.
Dal arrived with pedigree. He is a former England Under-19 international. Off the field, he has served as vice chair of the Professional Cricketers' Association, the players' union, since 2021.
What makes this stand out is the timing. Thirty is young to stop. Most all-rounders peak late, when experience helps them read pitches and manage workloads. Dal has chosen security and a second career instead.
