Daniel Maldini licence suspended after Milan crash
Italy forward Daniel Maldini has had his driving licence suspended after a car crash in Milan left six people with minor injuries.
Milan city police confirmed the accident involved the 24-year-old footballer in the early hours of Sunday. Officers said his Porsche Carrera 4 collided with another vehicle. Maldini was given a breathalyser test at the scene and his licence was confiscated after a positive result, according to BBC.
He was taken to hospital for precautionary checks. He was later released.
Police recorded two breath test readings of 0.91 and 0.89 grams per litre. Italy’s legal driving limit is 0.5 grams per litre.
The crash came only hours after a high point on the pitch. Maldini scored the winning goal for Cagliari in a 2-1 win over Atalanta in Serie A, Italy’s top division. Atalanta are his parent club, the club that holds his contract and has loaned him to Cagliari.
Maldini comes from one of football’s most famous families. He is the son of Paolo Maldini and the grandson of Cesare Maldini.
He became the third generation of the family to play for Italy when he made his debut against Israel in the Nations League, an international competition, in 2024. He has six caps for Italy, with the most recent coming in September 2025.
A separate report has claimed Maldini also tested positive for drugs after the accident. That claim, reported by OneFootball, has not been confirmed by police in the statements reported so far.
For fans, this means a night that began with a match-winner has quickly turned serious off the pitch. Six people were hurt, even if only slightly, and the legal process will now decide what comes next.
