Former ABC News journalist Dan Harris will front two shows for MS NOW's new paid Membership service.

The appointment puts mindfulness at the centre of the news brand's first move into subscriptions, a subscriber-only service meaning only paying members can watch. Variety reported the details on 14 September.

Harris previously reported for ABC News' "Nightline" and the weekend editions of "Good Morning America." He later left ABC News to focus on his meditation company, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He is now the central figure behind "10% Happier," a podcast, newsletter and app focused on meditation and mindfulness.

His two MS NOW programmes lean into that work. "Never Worry Alone with Dan Harris" is a live programme where members put questions directly to him. "The Week in Sanity with Dan Harris" brings him together with reporters, mental health experts, comedians, activists and others to work through the week's headlines. Harris will cover mindfulness and stress as part of the service, TheWrap reported.

Membership is MS NOW's first subscription offering. It costs $7.99 per month or $79.99 a year, according to a company press release. It is available in the App Store, on Google Play and online at ms.now.

Harris is not alone on the roster. The Membership service also offers interactive sessions with Rachel Maddow and the hosts of Morning Joe, Variety reported. Members can talk with the hosts rather than simply watch.

For viewers, this means news with a calmer slot alongside it. Short answers. Live questions. Room to breathe.
