Taron Egerton brings London dating satire to Toronto
Taron Egerton plays Adam, a London soft boy who gets his ultimate fantasy and then has to live inside it, in Everybody Wants To Fck Me*.
The film held its first listed screening in Toronto on Friday, September 11 at 9:30 at the Prince of Wales cinema, according to its festival interview page Deadline. That slot put Jonathan Schey's debut in front of a festival audience early in the Toronto run.
Schey both directed the film and wrote the screenplay, Deadline reports. The production describes it as an original razor-sharp dark comedy thriller set in the world of modern dating in London. Toronto's festival guide bills it as Schey's darkly comedic debut TIFF.
The story centres on Adam. Egerton is credited in the role TIFF, a character written to skewer the performative nice guy, the man whose soft manners hide self-interest Variety. IndieWire describes the set-up as a London soft boy cursed with his ultimate fantasy IndieWire.
Egerton leads an ensemble that includes Jessica Henwick, Charly Clive and Mia McKenna-Bruce. McKenna-Bruce joined the cast alongside Egerton, Deadline reported last November. Henwick, Clive and Schey joined Egerton for the film's Deadline TIFF Studio interview, with all four listed as panelists.
Behind the camera, the film is a co-production of Studiocanal, LuckyChap, Film4 and Parkville Pictures Deadline. Studiocanal is also handling sales, the job of selling distribution rights territory by territory to get the film into cinemas around the world. Egerton was first attached to star in October 2025 Deadline.
The team moved through Toronto's press circuit during the festival. Egerton appeared at the Deadline Studio on Day 2 of the Toronto Film Festival 2026 at the Bisha Hotel Deadline.
What makes this stand out on a crowded festival slate is the target. Dating in London gives Schey plenty of material, and the nice-guy act is an easy type to recognise. For fans, this means a short wait to learn who picks the film up next.
