Brave Wilderness host Mark Vins takes Reef to Ridge to Toronto festival

Brave Wilderness host Mark Vins has brought his first full-length documentary to the Toronto International Film Festival.
The film is Reef to Ridge, which premiered at this year's festival, Variety reported on 14 September 2026. Vins fronts Brave Wilderness, the wildlife series on YouTube where he counts almost 22 million subscribers. The step is his debut as a feature filmmaker after building an audience with shorter online episodes.
Reef to Ridge explores the natural beauty and dangers of Ecuador's Galápagos Islands. It follows Vins and his team on a high-stakes expedition, as described ahead of the festival by Variety. That premise keeps the familiar structure of the channel, a small crew out in the field close to wild animals, stretched across a full-length running time. The islands provide both the setting and the challenge.
The documentary screened at TIFF Lightbox on 10 September, according to Tubefilter. That was the opening day of the 2026 edition of the festival, the same report said. Holding the screening inside the festival's main venue put a YouTube-native title in front of a festival audience rather than an online feed.
The screening was linked to a wider creator push at Toronto. Variety and YouTube had lined up an inaugural Creator Festival to run alongside TIFF, with Reef to Ridge among the projects highlighted in the programme. The idea is simple: festivals, which have long served as a market where sales agents and buyers meet, are now making room for online creators alongside film and television teams.
An earlier announcement had pointed to a launch for the film on the official Brave Wilderness YouTube channel, Variety reported in November 2025. By the time of the September premiere, release plans were expected to be confirmed in the coming weeks. No date, venue or platform beyond the festival screening had been locked in at that point.
What makes this stand out is the change of screen. Vins built his following episode by episode, where viewers can click away in seconds. A festival premiere asks a room to sit with one story from start to finish.
For fans, this means a short wait. The Galápagos trip has had its first showing, but the wider release is still to come.
