Grammy winner Matt Serletic named dean of Miami's Frost School
Producer Matt Serletic has been named the sixth dean of the University of Miami's Frost School of Music. Billboard reported the appointment on 14 September 2026.
The role puts a former student in charge of his old school. Serletic earned a bachelor's degree in music performance from Miami in 1992. He followed it with a master's degree in the same subject in 1994. University listings give those years as 1992 for the B.M. and 1994 for the M.M. University of Miami
He arrives with a long studio CV. He has produced songs for Aerosmith, Santana and Willie Nelson. Three names. Three different corners of popular music.
The awards shelf is full. He won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year, given for a single track, for Santana's "Smooth" featuring Rob Thomas. He also won Album of the Year for Santana's Supernatural. He was twice nominated for Grammy Producer of the Year, Non-Classical, the category that honours producers working outside classical music.
Serletic has kept close ties to Frost. Since 2018 he has served on the dean's advisory committee, the group that counsels the school's leadership. He was one of 100 alumni to receive a Frost Centennial Medal for contributions to the music industry. The school recently commemorated 100 years, and those medals were presented at the opening of the Knight Center for Music Innovation on 2 November 2023.
Beyond producing, he is listed as a songwriter, record label owner and technology entrepreneur. Frost School lists him as the owner and chief executive of Emblem Music Group. Shelton (Shelly) G. Berg served as dean of the Frost School before this appointment.
What makes this stand out is the full circle. A graduate learns the craft. He builds a career in studios and boardrooms. Then he returns to lead the classrooms that trained him.
For students and families, the message is simple. The new dean has sat where they sit. He has made the passage from rehearsal to release, and now he is back to run the school that started him.
