Stephen Root has confirmed he will appear in Grand Theft Auto VI.

The actor shared the news in an interview with AP News, when asked about fan speculation around the game. "Yeah, you're gonna see me in that," he said, according to reporting on the interview by Eurogamer on 14 September.

Root is the voice of Bill Dauterive in King of the Hill, and his credits also include playing Milton Waddams, according to GameSpot. IGN described him as the first major cast member to confirm an appearance in GTA 6.

He did not name his character. Root said the part had appeared in material released almost a year ago, and that viewers recognised him because of his King of the Hill voice work. That recognition, he said, divulged the secret.

Fan speculation has centred on Brian Heder. Rockstar Games describes Brian as a classic drug runner from the golden age of smuggling who moves product through his boat yard with his third wife, Lori, according to the publisher's character page (Rockstar Games). Root himself has not specified which character he voices.

Root also gave November 19th as the latest release date he knew of. On the job itself, he added: "I am so happy to be involved with it. It's an amazing thing to look at."

For fans, this means a familiar voice finally has a real name attached, even if the exact role is still to be confirmed.
