Aimee Lou Wood reveals Mike White's idea for Chelsea to return to The White Lotus

Chelsea is dead. But Aimee Lou Wood says The White Lotus creator Mike White has an idea for how she could still return.

Wood, who played Chelsea in Season 3 of the HBO series, discussed the idea in an interview at Deadline's TIFF studio, published on 14 September Deadline. Chelsea died at the end of that Thailand-set season, which also closed the story of her boyfriend Rick.

White's suggestion centres on Saxon, the character played by Patrick Schwarzenegger. Wood said White raised the possibility of Chelsea coming back as Saxon's conscience.

She described it as a voice inside his head. Chelsea could be guiding him. Or haunting him. It would only apply if the show revisits Saxon.

Wood added a clear condition for any comeback. She said it would only happen if the series goes "supernatural or afterlifey."

That is because she supported the death. Wood said White had asked her if he made the wrong choice in killing Chelsea, and she told him: "you have to kill her."

Chelsea arrived in Season 3 as Rick's much younger girlfriend, described as more go-with-the-flow than him Deadline. Both characters died in the finale Deadline. Rick was played by Walton Goggins.

Return appearances are familiar on The White Lotus. Jennifer Coolidge's character Tanya McQuoid came back for the Sicily-set Season 2. Natasha Rothwell's character Belinda Lindsey returned for the Thailand-set Season 3. Jon Gries's character Greg Hunt has appeared in all three seasons.

Wood is now promoting new work. She plays Anna Dostoevskaya in The Idiot(s), directed by Michael Englert and Malgorzata Szumowska. The film follows Anna and her husband Fyodor Dostoevsky on their honeymoon as he works on the novel The Idiot. It is up for sale via The Match Factory and CAA.

For fans, this means Chelsea lives on as a favourite what-if rather than a plan. No return is confirmed. Only one route is open, and it sits inside another character's mind.
