Rhea Seehorn wins first Emmy for Pluribus lead role
Rhea Seehorn has finally won a Primetime Emmy. She took outstanding lead actress in a drama series at the 78th Emmy Awards for playing novelist Carol Sturka on the Apple TV series Pluribus, as reported by Variety. It was her first win at the Primetime Emmys, which honour the best of American evening television.
The prize is the top drama acting award for a woman leading a series. Seehorn won it ahead of four other nominees. They were Carrie Coon for The Gilded Age, Chase Infiniti for The Testaments, Keri Russell for The Diplomat and Zendaya for Euphoria.
She arrived with a long history at the awards and no trophy to show for it. She was nominated for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series, the award for performers who support the central story rather than carry it, in 2022 and 2023 for playing Kim Wexler on Better Call Saul. She was also nominated in 2022 for outstanding actress in a short-form comedy or drama series, a category for programmes made in shorter episodes, for playing Kris Latimer on Cooper's Bar. The Television Academy now credits her with four Emmy nominations in total.
That past was closely watched because Better Call Saul never won. The series finished with 53 Emmy nominations and no wins, a record for the most nominations for a series without a win. Pluribus broke that pattern for Seehorn. Created by Vince Gilligan, it reunited him with his former Better Call Saul star and earned 18 nominations overall at this year's Emmys.
The Emmy followed an earlier win in awards season. Seehorn won best actress in a TV drama at the 2026 Golden Globes for Pluribus, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She opened her acceptance speech with a joke about nerves. "My speech says get a prescription for beta-blockers, but I did not, sorry," she said. "I'm going to do my best," she added, as reported by People.
What makes this stand out is the length of the road. Three nominations came first. None brought a win. The fourth did, for a different character on a different series, and confirmed by Variety on 15 September 2026.
